Privacy Policy

Last updated: December 2025

Screenplay Editor ("we", "our", or "the add-on") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how Screenplay Editor handles information when you use our Google Docs add-on.

Summary

Screenplay Editor does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to external servers. All data stays within your Google account.

Information We Access

To provide its functionality, Screenplay Editor requires access to:

1. Current Google Document

Screenplay Editor accesses the content of the Google Doc you are currently editing. This access is necessary to apply screenplay formatting (scene headings, character names, dialogue, etc.) and to analyze the script structure for features like scene navigation and character management.

Scope: Access is limited to the document you have open. Screenplay Editor cannot access other documents in your Google Drive unless you explicitly open them.

2. Google Drive (for Export)

When you use the export feature, Screenplay Editor creates PDF or Fountain files in your Google Drive. This requires permission to create files in your Drive.

Scope: Screenplay Editor only creates new files for export. It does not read, modify, or delete other files in your Google Drive.

3. User Interface

Screenplay Editor displays a sidebar within Google Docs to provide its interface. This is a standard Google Workspace add-on capability.

Information We Store

Screenplay Editor stores the following data using Google's built-in storage services:

User Preferences

Settings such as your preferred formatting options are stored using Google Apps Script's PropertiesService. This data is stored within Google's infrastructure, associated with your Google account, and is not accessible to us or any third party.

Document-Specific Data

Information specific to each script (such as your character list) is stored within the document's properties using Google's DocumentProperties. This data travels with the document and is only accessible to users who have access to that document.

Information We Do NOT Collect

Screenplay Editor does not:

  • Collect or transmit your document content to external servers
  • Store your scripts or any part of them outside of Google's services
  • Collect personal information such as your name, email, or Google account details
  • Use analytics or tracking services
  • Share any data with third parties
  • Use your data for advertising purposes
  • Access your documents when you are not actively using the add-on

Data Security

Since all data remains within Google's infrastructure, your information is protected by Google's security measures. Screenplay Editor does not operate external servers and therefore cannot be a point of data breach for your content.

Data Retention

User preferences stored via PropertiesService remain until you uninstall the add-on or clear them manually. Document-specific data remains with the document until deleted.

To delete all data associated with Screenplay Editor, simply uninstall the add-on from your Google account.

Children's Privacy

Screenplay Editor is not directed at children under the age of 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.

Google API Services User Data Policy

Screenplay Editor's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy , including the Limited Use requirements.
